History

The spread of micro-computers in statistical departments at the end of the 1980s led Eurostat, the French Ministry for Cooperation and INSEE to join forces to develop a micro-computer tool to assist with the task of compiling accounts, for use in connection with their cooperation activities.

Responsibility for conducting the project has been entrusted to Michel SERUZIER, expert in national accounts, and to the team led by Bernard BOURRIQUEN at CREPFI, laboratory of the University of Lyon on the IT side.

Since 1999, the present co-owners Eurostat and INSEE are in charge of the new developments.

INSEE took charge of drafting the technical specifications while Eurostat financed IT developments and corrective maintenance of the tool. This work was carried out from 1999 to 2015 by Joëlle HAAS-BOURGMAYER.

1997: Test version 1.1 (tested in Cameroon et Central African Republic)

1999: Version 2.0 (goods and services accounts) trilingual (French, English and Spanish)

2001: Version 3.0 including institutional sectors accounts

2006: Version 3.3 projection of intermediate consumption

2010: Version 3.4 package with all the tools

2012: Additional modules, SERIE and ICP

2016: Development of a 64-bit version of ERETES to anticipate possible blockages linked to the evolution of operating systems (funded by INSEE).

2017: Reflections held by INSEE on the feasibility of developing new functionalities for the tool within the framework of the Pan-African Statistics Program funded by the European Commission. Organization of a workshop with African experts on their expectations in terms of new functionalities, technical and ergonomic improvements.

2018: Deepening of the areas of work identified during the 2017 workshop with the completion of an in-depth feasibility study within the framework of the PAS funded by the European Commission.
